This is a quick post to let you know we’ve updated the free dummy posts that we originally released on august 26, 2009 with some new additions to the file. There are now tags with each post (how could I have forgotten those?!?!) and also more pages added in, with a few of them taking on the role of child pages.

It’s funny because looking back on the original post, I mentioned that I didn’t add in the pages and would maybe do a new version if I ever felt like I needed them. I actually added the pages in a couple days later! I don’t know why I would have thought pages weren’t needed. Big fail on my part I guess.

All in all, it’s definitely an upgrade from the original one we released and one that I will now be using more often. If there’s something missing that you think I should add in, just leave a comment or contact me. Enjoy!

When you’re setting up wordpress test installs to check out a clients theme (or a free/premium theme you’re releasing), there’s always the un-fun task of putting 10-15 posts together to populate it so you can make sure everything is functioning properly. I’ve done this countless times and have used other dummy post files released in the past, but today I decided I was going to put one together that would benefit me and showcase the normal things I check for in wordpress themes.

The file is also downloadable here, provided as-is. I did not add any pages to the dummy file, but I might do this in the future if I see a need for it.

The time has finally come to release the first freebie in the Guerrilla network. Today is a great day for me and I am excited to announce that the first free wordpress theme from Guerrilla Themes is now available – and downloadable right here on WP Guerrilla. In this article we’ll be showing you what the theme looks like, how it can be customized, the features and color options that are pre-installed and answer any FAQ that might come up. So without any further waiting, here’s the free wordpress theme – Guerrilla Theme – from the Guerrilla Themes website.

Guerrilla Theme Color Options & Screenshots

There are 8 color options in this theme that you can select from the Guerrilla Options panel. The color options are listed below as well as put into screenshot form below the list. The color option is a simple drop down menu in the wordpress Guerrilla Options panel for easy changing.

Default (grey)

Red

Blue

Green

Brown

Orange

Pink

Black

Screenshot of default color stylesheet

The other color options

Guerrilla Options Panel

Below you’ll see screenshots of the various Guerrilla Options panel boxes and theme options. I built the theme to try to make it as customizable as possible and have added a lot of the features I (as well as @SuedeCrush and @JoPhillips) thought should be a part of the theme. They were awesome theme testers and helped me notice a lot of the things I was missing and should add in. The Guerrilla Options panel also features a nice jquery accordion set up so you don’t have to scroll down countless items to get to the spot you want to update.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the questions I figured I’d answer and get out of the way ahead of time. If theres one that you do not see on the list, feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email.

What if I do not have a logo and just want the blog title text?

Well, do not select the checkbox in the MAIN OPTIONS section for the logo and your blog title will appear in place.

Does this theme give IE6 support?

No, it doesn’t – I haven’t looked at it in any IE6 and will never look at it in IE6. I was contemplating having a box pop up letting your readers know they need to upgrade to IE8 but I left that out of this release. If there’s enough requests for it, I’ll add it into a future release.

What is the TIMTHUMB options?

TimThumb is a php script built by Darren Hoyt and was released as an open source project. You can read more about it by clicking here. If you do not select the checkbox, the timthumb images will not show. If you do select it but forget to add a custom field for any posts, there is no theme breaking. The custom field key is “image”.

The max width of the post box is 536 so if you want the image to stretch across and fit perfectly with that width, that is the pixel width you need to use.

What do I need for the advertisement codes section?

@suedecrush asked me about this when testing the theme so I knew I should add it here as well – the code boxes are for the FULL html codes for your ads, not just the url of the ad.

Do I need to add the page navigation plugin?

Nope – it’s already coded into the theme. Enjoy (*note, if you have the wp-page-navi plugin installed, it will break the theme so make sure it’s deactivated if you’ve used it previously)

I want to style the theme and change some css codes – how do I do that?

I added a custom.css file into the main theme folder that you can add codes into in order to edit the theme styling without editing the original theme css files. Simplicity and ease of use is what I was after here – can you tell? I’ve already pre populated the custom.css file with some of the main css style sets for the header/footer/navigation/ect so you know what to change.

What should I do if I want to have this theme customized for my site?

Funny you should ask – you know, I run a custom blog and web design company by the name of Guerrilla right? Well, it just so happens that, as the builder of this theme, I am able to customize it with ease. Below are a couple of the sites I have built that used this theme – only, more customized. (If you’d like to have your theme customized, please do not hesitate to contact me).

Download this theme now

Below is the link to download the wordpress theme. I am working on submitting it to the wordpress theme directory and as soon as it’s approved, I’ll make sure to update this post with the link there as well. You can also demo the theme by clicking the DEMO link
